Taj Mahal Myths
The architect of the Taj Mahal is built in such a way that it aims at giving maximum strength and stability to the tomb. As its built and structure is worked out keeping in view the minutest details with utmost precision, what’s more interesting is the distribution of the weight that has been done systematically and uniformly. Above all, the precautions and care, which is gone into making of it is tremendous and beyond any doubts. What’s more, due to some defects there were some errors but they were also finely dealt with. Interestingly, even amidst the cracks, the dome is perfectly located.
As we can see the cracks that were noticed during its construction, an Advisory Committee worked on it and rectified in time.
In fact, when the committee was examining all this, very interesting facts came out about the plinth of the mausoleum on the northern side that is lower than on the south by 3.5cms. though there were no cracks on the exterior wall, but they were definitely there on the second storey vaults of the marble structure.
Although, Shahjahan is mainly responsible for providing the vision behind the entire concept, he got support of a number of architects. Muhammad Isa Khan is one of the main architects behind the beauty of this magnificent monument. It is also said that there were some 37 people who passionately worked for the monument and as a result came out with this successful gigantic project. Taj Mahal started getting constructed in the year 1632 and work on the mausoleum started in frenzy with numerous workers in thousands.
It was in the end of the first year of construction the mausoleum took shape and the crypt chamber along with its surrounding works came into existence. In fact, it was the body of Mumtaz Mahal that was kept interred in the tomb. Six years of extensive labor saw the main building of the mausoleum as the crowned guava shaped dome kept coming. There are some historians who believe that the construction of Taj Mahal was completed in about 10 years.
One of the great aspects about Taj Mahal is that it came out in accordance with the plan. It is built as per the Islamic concept of Paradise, where an enormous, shimmering pearl stands in an elegant manner. After completion, the dome has come out as a vault of the heaven. To complete the illusion of the paradise, the tomb has been ornamented in a beautiful manner. An inscription is written on the massive front gateway that makes it ever more beautiful and magnificent.
The great Taj Mahal is glorious. No doubts about it. As it is marked by perfect symmetry and harmony in every aspect the four towering minarets; the cupolas (chhatris); the central arch in the façade; everything is well organized and immensely beautiful.
